What to Expect

Experience the best of Cappadocia on a 2-day tour, with overnight bus transfers from Istanbul and professional guides at the region’s most famous sites. Following a pick-up from your hotel in Istanbul, go to the bus station to catch your overnight bus transfer to Goreme.

Day 1: South Cappadocia
Upon arrival in Goreme, start a full-day tour of Southern Cappadocia at the Underground City of Derinkuyu, a huge refugee settlement carved into the rock by early Christians. Continue into the Valley of Ihlara, formerly known as “Peristerema” (“Valley of Sky”). Follow the Melendiz River, and hike through the valley to discover rock-cut churches.

En route back to Goreme, stop at Selime Monastery, one of the largest of the monasteries cut into the soft tufa rock. Travel through Pigeon Valley, named for the ancient dovecotes carved into the rock.

Day 2: North Cappadocia
Start your tour of North Cappadocia at Goreme Open Air Museum. See the living art of early Christians and Byzantines in the cave churches. Next, drive to the old Greek village of Çavuşin, where a church of St. John the Baptist rises from the top of a hill. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Avanos, center of Cappadocia’s terracotta art since 2000 BC.

After lunch, go to Pasabagi, otherwise known as “Monks Valley.” Here, you will discover the extraordinary mushroom-shaped pinnacle rocks, before going to Devrent (“Imagination Valley”), known for the iconic “Fairy Chimneys” of Cappadocia.

End the day at the natural rock castle of Uchisar, before catching the overnight bus to Istanbul.
